We produce separate boys and girls versions of each script because most children’s parties at movie party age tend to be either all-boys or all-girls. The Chucklers is written to the same high standards as our other scripts, and will give you a good idea of what to expect from a full-blown movie party.
It’s slightly shorter than most of our scripts, and is written for just three characters, so it’s an easy introduction for actors as well as film-makers.
It’s also suited to a very wide age range, making it perfect for a fun family project on a wet Sunday afternoon!
As with all our scripts, we have a version primarily for girls and another for boys. However, both the plot and the action in The Chucklers are written in such a way that the differences are very slight, and it’s easy to swap the gender of one or two of the roles if you need to.

Scripts from Movie Parties are specifically written to be filmed in the context of a party. The scenes are short, the dialogue easy to learn and evenly distributed, and the themes are fun. Ideas for props and special effects are provided and require no special equipment. All you need to get started is your own camcorder. Suggestions for getting the most out of your filming are also included, as well as a comprehensive set of filming ‘Tips and Tricks.’

A movie party is a fantastic way to unleash your children’s creativity and have great fun doing it. Our Getting Started section tells you everything you need to know.
Here’s how a movie party works:
Step 1:
You throw a party (any excuse will do - birthday, Christmas, Thanksgiving …or just for the fun of it!).
Step 2:
You make a movie at the party (but not just any old movie - Aunt Millie falling asleep in an armchair just doesn’t cut it any more - we’re talking real movies here…!) based on a great Movie Parties script.
Step 3:
After a well-earned rest for some food, you watch the movie you’ve just made on your TV. If you’re lucky, the kids will only make you watch it six times…if you’re unlucky…well, let’s just say you’d better keep the rest of the evening free!
Step 4:
Peace breaks out all over the world and cures are discovered for all major diseases.
Step 5:
OK, so only steps 1-3 are directly covered by throwing a movie party, but hey, we can hope.
Making a movie at a party? Is that it?! Sounds pretty straightforward, we know. But making a fun, original movie with a clear plot, great characters and cool special effects - a movie that covers the stuff you just know that kids love to do - is a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.

What age are your scripts suitable for?
Although this will obviously vary from child to child, our scripts are roughly aimed at children between the ages of 7 and 14 - with somewhere in the middle being ideal.
How long does it take to film a Movie Parties script?
To allow time for people being late, a few breaks, and some party food, we would recommend allowing a total of three hours.
How long is a completed movie?
Depending on how you approach the filming (and excluding any outtakes), a finished movie will last around 10 to 15 minutes.
The script I’ve chosen seems to involve people disappearing/explosions/etc. How am I supposed to film this?
Don’t worry! Every script has detailed instructions to help you create the special effects that the story requires. None of them require any special equipment of any kind.
My camcorder’s getting a bit old - is it worthwhile trying to film a movie party?
Absolutely! As long as it still works and you follow the basic tips and tricks supplied with your script, any basic camcorder will be fine.
Do I need a separate microphone for my camcorder to make a movie?
No. We make some suggestions about getting the best possible sound in our ‘tips and tricks’ guide. However, basic directional mics which attach to most home camcorders have come down significantly in price in recent years. While not a necessity, these will certainly give you more flexibility when filming.
I like the idea, but none of your scripts are suitable for my party - do you have any more?
We’re always working on new ideas for scripts. If you can’t find the right one for you in our online catalogue, email us.
Do you ever write bespoke scripts for children who want to act out a particular type of story, or who have specific interests?
Yes, we’re always happy to do this. Email us for details and costs.
How will I get my script?
Once your payment has been securely processed, you’ll be taken to a web page where you will be able to download the script you have chosen and any associated documents.
What if I lose my connection somehow while I’m trying to download my script?
You will have access to the download page for several days after your purchase has been processed, just in case.
What do I get in my movie party pack?
A basic movie party pack contains the script you have purchased, our detailed ‘how to host a movie party’ guide, and our list of fantastic film-making tips, trick & special effects.

I don’t want to get into video-editing - is there any point in having a movie party?
Editing your movie after the party is entirely optional. Our experience is that a day spent filming and then watching the ‘raw’ footage on TV with all your guests is fantastic fun in itself. However, if you’d like to try your hand at video-editing, your movie party provides a great starting-point and some wonderful raw material.
I can’t imagine some of my children’s friends wanting to learn lines - even if it is to make a movie!
In an ideal world, it would be great if all your guests learned their lines in advance. However, this doesn’t even happen in Hollywood, so don’t expect it to happen at your party! We explain in our ‘tips and tricks’ guide how movie-makers get round this, how to shoot in very short scenes, how to prompt discretely, and so on. No-one needs to learn lines in advance if they don’t want to.
Can I post the finished movie on a video-sharing site like YouTube?
Once you’ve finished your movie, it’s yours to do with as you please. However, please be aware that you should ensure you have the consent of the parents of the guests if you wish to do anything with it which takes it outside the context of the original party.
Once I’ve received my script, how many copies can I print?
As many as you need. No restrictions are placed on printing copies of our scripts.
Once I’ve downloaded my script, can I email it to other people?
No. The terms of our license require that you keep the script you have purchased for yourself, and do not distribute it electronically to anyone else. In order to keep things simple for you and to keep the cost of our scripts down, we place no specific technical restrictions on our scripts which prevent you from doing this. However, we hope you will allow us to keep the cost of our products down by respecting the spirit of the agreement you make in purchasing from us.
After a few hours of filming and then the reward of watching the hilarious results on your TV, everyone will have had a fantastic time at your party. You’ll send them home talking about nothing else! But of course, if you’ve been bitten by the movie-making bug, there is one more thing you just might try! How about copying your movie to your computer and adding the finishing touches to it there?
Whether you choose to edit your movie on your computer is entirely up to you. However, all we can say is that we think it’s definitely worth it, and that the results can be spectacular! Most computers have simple video-editing software pre-installed - common titles include Adobe Premiere, Apple iMovie, Final Cut, Pinnacle Studio, Windows Movie Maker, Ulead MediaStudio and Roxio VideoWave, although there are many, many more.
Editing a movie and burning it to DVD is too large a topic to cover as part of our tips and tricks, but here is a quick list of some of the basic things you can do with your movie on a computer:

With simple video-editing software, you can even change the order of your scenes, get rid of mistakes, add more music, add scene transitions and other special effects.
If you really want to push the boat out, once you’ve got your final cut the way you want it, why not invite all the guests and their parents back for a gala charity premiere!? You can even use your computer to make a DVD of the final movie for everyone as a memento, and a reward for all their hard work.

Organising your party couldn’t be simpler.
First, you choose the film you’d like to make from our catalogue. Each of our scripts comes in two versions - one for boys and the other for girls. A brief sample of each script is provided, as well as short character descriptions and a summary of the story. The script comes as part of a Party Pack that also contains a complete guide to hosting a movie party plus a great guide to tips, tricks and special effects.
Once you’ve chosen the movie you want to make, just add it to your shopping basket. Payment for Movie Parties scripts and other items is via secure online payment through standard credit cards and PayPal. Each Party Pack is a snip at just £19.99.
After we’ve received your payment, you’ll be taken straight to a page where you’ll be able to download your chosen Party Pack right away. These files will be transferred to your computer for you to print out as many copies as you need at home. They are all saved as Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) files, and are contained in a single compressed (zip) file that is compatible with both Mac and PC-based systems.
Once you have your script, you need to decide who will play which part in your movie. (We know you think making a movie sounds like great fun, but don’t forget some of the guests might not be quite so keen. Find out about the fun stuff that needs doing behind the camera and make sure everyone feels able to get in on the act.)
Once you’ve decided who’s doing what, you send out your invitations along with copies of the script and anything else you think your guests will need. Each script clearly marks the dialogue for a specific character, making the simple scenes easy to learn for those that want to. Even if learning lines proves too hard, you’ll shoot the film itself in very short scenes which makes dialogue easy to organise on the day.
On the day of the party, make sure you’re organised : lay out all your props before everyone arrives and decide where you’re going to film each scene. After everyone has arrived, remind everyone of the story and tell them what you’re going to do - then start fliming scene by scene following the suggestions in the script.

After a break for some food and then some final shots, you end the party with a hilarious first screening of your movie on your TV. You’ll love seeing your film for the first time on the small screen, and if your party is anything like ours, you’ll probably get more fun out of the out-takes than the movie itself!
Of course, you needn’t stop once everyone has gone home! If you have access to a PC and some simple video editing software, you can stitch your movie together, add some music and credits, and burn it to DVD for the guests to receive in the post - together with those out-takes as extra bonus footage!
You could even invite all your guests and their parents back a few weeks after the party for a gala charity premiere of the party movie!
